Hello from Mrs Churchus! Class 2 Teacher

Dear Class 1 and Class 2,

We miss you all very much and wanted to let you know we are thinking of you. We keep uploading pictures and activity ideas to the website but it’s on a different page: children - home based learning - foundation stage. You can also see some of these ideas and get in touch with us on Twitter @MeynellSchool or @MissParkEYFS

For now we have to stay safe in our homes with our grown ups. It’s very difficult and sometimes you might feel a little bored, but we will all be back together at school as soon as it is safe.

We are sending a big hug and can’t wait to hear from you.

We have had such a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. We have read our favourite stories, shared a circle time talking about the books we like and finally decorated potatoes to resemble our favourite story character!

Thank you for reading with your child. They are making great progress. Please continue with this. If you need support with the tips please speak to one of the teachers.

To all our FS2 families and friends,

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Love Mrs Churchus, Miss Park, Miss Elwood, Miss Johnson, Mrs Leigh and Mrs Quarterman

Today we have talked about and made our own Christingles. We know that the orange symbolises the world. The red ribbon symbolises Jesus' love and blood and the candle symbolises the light of Jesus. However, our favourite part was eating all the sweets!

Today we all enjoyed eating our delicious Christmas dinner in the dining room with our teachers. Then we arrived back at the classroom and we were so excited when we heard the bells ringing in Foundation 2... "I wonder what that could be..." we thought and then suddenly in came Father Christmas! Here are a selections of pictures from the day.

'Its a Baby!' The children loved sharing their performance with their families and friends. Here are a selection of the nativity photos! We have sent copies home with the children, if you would like any more just ask a member of staff and we will be happy to print them out for you to treasure!

Our Christmas mark making workshop! Thank you to all of the lovely families who joined us. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Christmas Workshop

Wednesday 11th December

2-3pm in FS2.

Lots of exciting Christmas crafts to enjoy creating with your child.

FS2 Christmas Sing is next week! If you haven't booked your tickets please advise a member of staff of your preferred date soon.

Autumn has been one of our topics for this term. We have been looking at how the seasons change and how this effects plants, animals and even how we feel ourselves! The children loved their Autumn bags which they were able to take home to collect treasures and bring them back to school for show and tell. Thank you so much to our FS2 families for supporting your children with this activity. Below are some pictures of all the different things we collected, which we used in our small world area for the children to create scenes and stories.

FS2 have managed to raise a fantastic £38.28 for Children in Need! Thank you so much to all the families who made a donation. The children loved talking about Pudsey Bear and wearing their own clothes!

Foundation 2 were proud to learn about and celebrate Remembrance Day this week. We painted poppies on to support and placed them outdoors around the bottom of a special tree. We also held 2 minutes silence, where the children watched a small video by Cbeebies which gave them the opportunity to think about what we had learnt.

This week in Foundation 2 we have been learning all about 2D shapes and their properties. We have had so much fun looking for shapes in our learning environment and making pictures with 2D shapes.

Curriculum news for Autumn 2!

We have enjoyed participating in the celebration of Black History Month by reading the story Handa's Surprise and using our senses to explore unusual and exciting new fruits!

Thankyou to all the parents who came to support their child at yesterdays phonics workshop! We had a lovely time and the children really enjoyed teaching their grown ups!

Dates for your diary!

Congratulations Class 2! For 2 weeks in a row now, Class 2 have achieved best overall attendance in school. Fantastic effort!

Week 3:

This week we have started Jigsaw/PSHE and been talking about what makes us different. We also read the story 'So Much' by Trish Cooke and spoke about our families. We learnt that some of us have really big families and some of us just live with 1 grown up, some of us have lots of brothers and sisters and some of us don't have any. We loved talking to our friends about our similarities and differences.

Miss Park and Mrs Churchus

Dinner time! We are so confident now in going to lunch, in fact it is one of our favourite parts of the day! We try food from all over the world and always enjoy our desserts.

Meet Turdo, our Giant African Snail! We have been learning about his care needs and how to handle Turdo carefully. Even though the children all felt a little bit scared, they decided to challenge themselves and each took a turn in holding Turdo. We realised together that Turdo wasn't actually very scary at all and we enjoyed looking at the patterns on the shell.

The Jungle Book

Week 2:

This week we have been reading the story of The Jungle Book. We enjoyed looking at pictures of a Jungle and talking about what we could see. Then we were surprised by our teachers as we had the opportunity to see a theatre adaptation of The Jungle Book by M&M Theatre Productions. We were even lucky enough to meet some of the actors. Ryan, who played Sherre Khan and Baloo, showed us his costumes and reassured us that we don't need to feel scared because it's only him in the Tiger and Bear costumes. We found this really helpful and when we saw some of the scarier characters on stage, we were able to be really brave!

Miss Park and Mrs Churchus

A huge thankyou to lovely Marie at Feels Like Home for her generous donation of plants for our classroom. We have had so much fun learning about what each plant is called and what it does. The children love them and have enjoyed drawing the patterns on the leaves. We are so grateful! Thankyou Marie! Love FS2

Week 1 -

This week we have enjoyed exploring our new indoor and outdoor classroom and getting to know our new friends. We have enjoyed getting used to our daily routine and now feel more confident and excited to come to school. We have had our first P.E lesson with Mr Betsworth where we played lots of team games. We can't wait for next week.

Miss Park and Mrs Churchus

We love books! Today we have been reading the Three Little Pigs. We took turns to tell the story, pretending to be different characters and then we explored materials to find out which would be the strongest.

Welcome to FS2!

A huge welcome to all our families and children. We are so excited to get to know you and to begin our FS2 adventure. On this page, we will keep you up to date with what we have been learning, FS2 letters and also exciting workshop events! We will also add pictures of our first day!
