Here are some useful web links that we use in the classroom and may be helpful to try out at home with your child.
Local Sheffield Author Wendy Scott came into school today to share her new story Billy's Camera. It was so lovely to hear the story read by the person who had written it. Wendy was able to share how she created the story and how she came up with ideas for her illustrations. We saw her sketch book and were able to look through lots of her drawings some of which ended up in the book. It was such an exciting experience, we hope that she will be back soon to share her next story!
The actors from TV's Rhyme Rocket came into school today to put on a live performance of their show for all of Foundation Stage and KS1. The children were able to participate in the show through music, dance and audience interactions. The children had to help the commanders match the rhyming words on their adventure through space. The children had so much fun! Maybe you could think of a silly rhyming rap to do at home!
The whole school took part in Space Day at Meynell and FS2 had fun investigating the theme of rockets!! We read the story 'Whatever Next!' and thought about what it might be like to go on an adventure into space or to land on the moon. We watched lots of clips of space shuttles launching from huge launch pads and the incredible fire that comes from the rocket blasters. The children had fun making rockets outside using the loose parts materials and enjoyed retelling the story 'Whatever Next!' in the deconstructed role play are. We had a blast!!
The children were lucky enough to experience the excitement and thrill of a stage production at school today. The stage production of The Wizard of Oz proved to be a fantastic show enjoyed by both the children and teachers at school. Everyone was able to join in the show helping Dorothy on her journey along the yellow brick road to the Emerald City.
We would like to say a big welcome to all our children and their families! We are really excited to get to know you all better and are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
