Sustainability

At Meynell primary school, we are committed to ensuring our school is sustainable as possible. This is essential to help combat climate change.

We have already made significant changes in school to begin to reduce our carbon footprint. This involves all staff and children in school and also support from leaders in the Inova Trust. Involving children in the process will inspire their enthusiasm to drive change in our local community, increase their knowledge of sustainability and climate change and also be open around any anxiety linked to climate concerns.

Our Climate Action Plan focuses on the 4 areas outlined by the DfE:

  • Section 1 – Decarbonisation and energy efficiency
  • Section 2 – Climate adaptation and resilience
  • Section 3 – Biodiversity
  • Section 4 – Climate education, green skills and careers

In 2025 we were successful in gaining the Nature Park grant to improve our school. This meant we worked very closely with charity Kids Plant Trees. We were able to plant 200 saplings to develop our forest school area as well as a hedgerow to improve habitats on the school field.

This support also helped us to create a natural area on the KS1 playground with a range of sensory plants and climbers in new planters. We have two water butts to reuse rain water and keep the plants looking their best!

Eco Team in the community

Some members of Eco team attended a Local Area Committee meeting in Parson Cross. They spoke to local councillors about a litter picking project they had been working on.
